At this time next week, we will know the results of the majority of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Minnesota Vikings currently hold nine selections in that draft, and many expect one of those picks to be on a quarterback. Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report wrote ideal draft selections for each of the 29 teams currently holding first-round selections. For the Vikings, Fowler opted for LSU QB Jayden Daniels.

“In a perfect world, the Bears grab Caleb Williams, Washington takes Drake Maye and Minnesota is able to trade up (most likely to No. 3) to grab Jayden Daniels. The LSU product’s dynamic playmaking ability and vertical accuracy would jigsaw nicely into Kevin O’Connell’s offense. Working within an offensive unit headlined by Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson presents an immediate chance for Daniels to succeed as his game evolves,” Fowler wrote.

For much of the offseason, it has seemed consensus that Daniels will eventually be selected with the second overall pick by the Washington Commanders. However, that has been called into question over the past few days because of reports that Daniels and his agent, Ron Butler, were not satisfied with their visit in Washington.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk was one of the ringleaders for this rumor, writing: “On Wednesday, the Commanders hosted four top quarterback prospects on the same day. Whatever the reason (the best explanation we’ve come up with is that the owner was available for one day to meet with them), the presumptive second overall pick — LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels — might not have been happy about that.”

The following day, the Vikings were in Baton Rouge for a private visit with Daniels. Initially, it was reported that Daniels and the Vikings would be having dinner together, but Darren Wolfson of KTSP later reported that it was simply a “nice meeting” between the two sides.

Daniels possesses a rocket-powered arm that allows him to deliver sharp passes all over the field, and his scrambling ability immediately will turn him into one of the most dangerous QBs in the NFL. During his final season at LSU, he totaled 1250 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

Overall, Vikings fans probably shouldn’t hold their breath about Daniels falling down the draft board to them, but if he did slip past No. 2 overall, it should be viewed as even more motivation to get up the board and select him.
