Vikings Fans Can Cross One QB Prospect Off Their 2024 Draft Wishlist
Many Vikings fans are hoping that Minnesota will select a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
This class is loaded with talented QB prospects, and with Kirk Cousins entering free agency and his age-36 season, it makes sense for the Vikings to address their future at the position. However, fans will have to cross one QB off their wishlist for April.
That quarterback is Quinn Ewers, who decided this week that he will be heading back to the Texas Longhorns program for his senior season of college.
Cross a QB Prospect Off 2024 Draft Wishlist
The QB announced the decision on Thursday by tweeting a video. Take a look:
Ewers has helped rejuvenate the Texas program over the past couple years, and this season, the Longhorns were able to make the College Football Playoff with him at quarterback. Of course, the dream of a national championship came to an end when they lost to Washington in the Sugar Bowl by a score of 37-31.
This loss was not because of a lackluster performance out of Ewers, though, as the QB threw for 314 yards and a touchdown. In total, the second-year starter threw for 3,479 yards, 22 TDs, and six interceptions over 12 games this season as Texas finished the season with a 12-2 record.
Given how much talent lies at the top of this year’s NFL Draft class at the position, it makes sense for Ewers to return to school and potentially raise his draft stock for the 2025 class.
Texas is also set to join the SEC in 2024, and Ewers’ Longhorns will play a challenging schedule that includes the reigning national champions, the Michigan Wolverines. They will also go head-to-head with Oklahoma, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
An added wrinkle with Ewers’ return means that we likely must wait another year before seeing Arch Manning — yes, of that Manning family — take over the starting role at Texas. Manning was the No. 1 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and opted to commit to the Longhorns.
Regardless, any Vikings fans wanting Minnesota to select a QB this spring will have to cross Ewers off the list.
