If the Vikings Win on Sunday, Their Next Game Will Be in San Francisco

Heading into the weekend, there was a chance that the Vikings could have an extended home playoff run if they got some help from the rest of the conference. Alas, no such help arrived in the Saturday slate of the NFC Wild Card as the No. 2 seeded San Francisco 49ers obliterated the No. 7 seed Seahawks by a score of 41-23.

Because of that, if the Vikings win on Sunday against the New York Giants, their next game will be in San Francisco against these very 49ers that just won their 11th consecutive game, and during that streak, this is their 8th win by double digits.

Currently, the Vikings are three-point favorites over the Giants, but there seems to be a lot of east coast bias and some desire to prove Minnesota as “fraudulent” because they are a very hot upset pick right now. The last time Minnesota played the New York Giants in the playoffs, it was the 2001 season where they lost the NFC Championship Game by a score of 41-0.

Ironically enough, the last time the Vikings faced off with the 49ers in the playoffs, that game also ended in a blowout. That game occurred in the Divisional round on January 11th, 2020, when the Niners took down the Vikes, 27-10.

That game was the last time that Minnesota participated in the playoffs, and now, they have a chance to avenge two blowout losses in two weeks. Then, of course, there’s always the possibility of meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, and they would try to avenge the 38-7 loss that took place during the 2017 season in the NFC Championship.

Of course, though, first things first: the Vikings have to find a way to beat the Giants at home on Sunday if they want a crack at those other two teams. Kickoff between the Giants and Vikings is scheduled for 3:30 PM CST on Sunday, January 15th.
