After the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Chicago Bears by a score of 29-13 on Sunday afternoon, there was a glimmer of hope that Minnesota might land the No. 2 seed if David Blough and the Arizona Cardinals could pull off a little bit of magic against the San Francisco 49ers.

No such luck occurred as the 49ers thoroughly stomped the Cardinals, 38-13. That now sets up a Wild Card matchup for the Minnesota Vikings with a familiar foe. The No. 3 seed Vikings will play host to the No. 6 seed New York Giants next weekend.

These two teams met earlier this season on Christmas Eve. In that game, despite a comeback effort by the Giants, Minnesota won by a score of 27-24. Greg Joseph hit a Vikings franchise record 61-yard field goal as time expired to win that game.

In that first matchup, it was the T.J. Hockenson and Justin Jefferson show for the Vikings. The duo combined for 25 receptions, 242 receiving yards, and 3 TDs. QB Kirk Cousins finished the game completing 34-of-48 passes for 299 yards and the 3 TDs to the aforementioned receiving duo.

On the other side, Daniel Jones had quite a game as well, passing for 334 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. That passing TD went to Isaiah Hodgins. Saquon Barkely also got in on the action, recording 14 rushes for 84 yards, including his 27-yard touchdown run with two minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Then, as the Vikings have done for most of their wins, Cousins led them down the field one more time, setting up Joseph’s record-breaking field goal. Details as to the exact date/time for this matchup have not been set yet, but you can be sure we will have that information as soon as it is released.
