Folks, the rumors are back. Last offseason, and throughout much of the 2022 regular season, there was speculation aplenty regarding the potential of an Odell Beckham Jr./Minnesota Vikings union at some point in the year.

Those rumors, of course, never quite came to fruition. However, they are back and perhaps with as much of a fervor as ever this week. You see, Beckham announced that he would be holding a private workout for NFL teams to attend.

That workout took place on Friday afternoon, and according to a report from Jonathan Jones of CBS, the Vikings were in attendance for the workout as one of at least 11 teams. The others included in the report were as follows:

  • Carolina Panthers
  • New York Giants
  • New England Patriots
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Buffalo Bills
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Baltimore Ravens

Of course, this does not mean the Vikings will sign Beckham this offseason. If they were extremely interested in him, they probably would have brought him in at some point during 2022. However, with the release of Adam Thielen, and a need for dynamic receiving talent opposite Justin Jefferson, the Vikings may be as good a fit as anyone for the veteran receiver.

Beckham did not play at all in 2022 following an ACL tear in the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, but during that Super Bowl season, he played a huge role for the Rams in order to get to that game.

During eight regular season games with the Rams, he caught 27 passes for 305 yards and 5 TDs. During the playoffs was when Beckham truly came alive, though. In the Rams four playoff games, including that Super Bowl, he caught 21 passes for 288 yards and 2 TDs. He caught a pair of passes for 52 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl before suffering his ACL injury.

Now, the 30-year-old is on a mission to get back onto an NFL field. He already has a connection with head coach Kevin O’Connell from that season with the Rams, and the friendship between Beckham and Jefferson (as well as their LSU connection) is widely known.

Should Beckham be the guy that Minnesota stakes all their WR2 hopes in this offseason? Probably not. However, he could certainly be a luxury to have as an insurance piece, especially on a cheaper contract.
