Vikings Podcast (w/ Video): Browning’s Bengals Vanquish Vikings

The expected outcome, perhaps, and yet still one that will sting for a lot of Minnesota fans.

On the latest episode of Notes from the North — a humble Vikings podcast — Sizzlin’ Sam and I return to offer some thoughts on the play of Nick Mullens, the late-game struggles of the defense, and various other topics from the game. Jake Browning led his team to a win over the Vikings, so the end result is a 7-7 record and a more difficult path toward being a playoff team in the NFC. Where does this team find itself?

As per tradition, let’s toss the opening word over to Sizzlin’ Sam.

Take a look at how he describes the episode: “In a game where the Vikings have their 4th QB start a game for them this season, the guys talk about Mullens performance, the rest of the offense, and the level of concern about the defense before wrapping up and discussing how the Vikings matchup against the Lions.”

The Minnesota Vikings prepare to take the field prior to a Week 15 NFL football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals, Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Bengals won 27-24 in overtime.

And the video, for those of you who enjoy seeing a podcast on YouTube:

Nick Mullens didn’t play a perfect game. Far from it. He did, though, revive the offense, passing for over 300 yards as he got his top trio of pass catchers — Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson — involved in the game.

Look for Mr. Mullens to be the man under center in Week 16 when the Lions come to town. The head coach confirmed as much in his Monday press conference.

In the 4th quarter, the Vikings struggled to corral the Bengals’ offense. Cincinnati put together three touchdowns in the final quarter, meaning Minnesota had to try to come away with the victory in overtime. Unfortunately for O’Connell, that approach ended up failing. Is there reason for concern with the defense?
