Vikings Podcast: Scintillating San Francisco is No Match for MNF Cousins

Well, that was an unexpected development, but one that Vikings fans will be glad to see arrive.

On the latest episode of Notes from the North — a humble Vikings podcast — Sizzlin’ Sam and I return to breakdown Minnesota’s wild win over San Francisco. The 49ers are arguably the best team in the NFL, so overcoming them is no small feat. The discussion ventures into the offense’s commitment to putting the ball in the best players’ hands, the opportunistic defense, and where things can go at the trade deadline.

Vikings Podcast: October 24th, 2023

Kirk Cousins played a phenomenal football game. Anything less than true excellence from him would have resulted in Minnesota sinking down to 2-5. Instead, they’re sitting at 3-4, a victory away from even par.

He finished his day having gone 35/45 while piling up 378 yards. His pair of touchdowns to Jordan Addison were excellent plays even if he’d like to have the opening interception back. That blemish aside, Cousins was brilliant, regularly shuffling around the pocket before getting the ball downfield. And, of course, we think of his effort on third down. The team went 8/13, a huge improvement.

Brian Flores found a way of getting his defense to a point where they could majorly impact the outcome. More specifically, he has enabled them to create multiple turnovers, the kind of plays that result in winning a football game.

Camryn Bynum put together a marvellous night, finishing the contest with a pair of interceptions on Brock Purdy and the forced fumble on Christian McCaffrey. Safe to say there’s no chance the Vikings win without the great stuff from Mr. Bynum, who is playing the best football of his career.

Winning against San Francisco made the trade deadline much more fascinating. Instead of fully careening off the road, the Vikings are still very much on a route where they could end up in the playoffs. Does that prompt Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to acquire talent? Take a listen to hear the thoughts on how things could unfold.
