Vikings Podcast: Not Ideal but Hello, Danielle

Collectively, Vikings fans are feeling a bit discouraged. Starting 0-2 can do that to a group of fans, especially ones as tortured as those in Minnesota. If you’re feeling down, then we’ve got the Vikings podcast for you.

Sizzlin’ Sam and I jump back in the saddle to unpack what the Thursday Night Football loss had to offer. Indeed, the latest episode of Notes from the North, a humble Vikings podcast, spends a few moments dissecting the turnovers, the sensational Danielle Hunter & Justin Jefferson, as well as where the team goes with its roster.

Kirk Cousins played well. In fact, there’s a case to be made that he played very well, tossing 4 touchdowns and for more than 350 yards. Not a bad day at the office when we remember that the run game has been non-existent and that turnovers are flying off the shelf faster than hot dogs at a Twins game (he did fumble against the Eagles, but it’s hard to blame him for it).

The main issue for Cousins on Thursday was simply the ball placement. At times, the football wasn’t in an optimal location for the receivers to gain yards after the catch. Ideally, he’ll start getting suplexed less so that he can keep delivering lasers to the team’s various skill guys.

The run defense ended up failing in Philadelphia, so Brian Flores will need to ensure things improve ahead of a talented Chargers offense in Week 3. Playing Khyiris Tonga a touch more would be a nice place to start, but one has to assume that Flores has his reasons for not allowing the powerful NT to get onto the field for more playing time.

The positives, of course, rest in some of the statistical achievements. We think of Justin Jefferson getting his revenge, torching Darius Slay a year after getting shut down. Meanwhile, Danielle Hunter was causing a pile of problems for a very talented Eagles offensive line.

Other stand out performers include Brian O’Neill, Jordan Addison, Camryn Bynum, Jordan Hicks, and T.J. Hockenson.
