Vikings Podcast (w/ Video): Miscues in the Sin City but a Mullens Revival

Well, that one was ugly.

The Vikings overcame the Raiders by a score of 3-0. Being able to do so involved benching Josh Dobbs in favor of Nick Mullens. In the latest episode of Notes from the North — a Vikings podcast — Sizzlin’ Sam and I return to unpack exactly what happened in the Sin City. Minnesota won, yes, but should there be optimism about where this team is at going into the final four weeks of the season?

Vikings Podcast: 12.11.2023

As per tradition, let’s check in to see what my partner in crime has to say.

Take a look at the episode summary from Sizzlin’ Sam: “On this week’s episode from Notes from the North, Kyle and Sam break down an… interesting game from the Vikings. While finding optimistic pieces from the game, they discuss the quarterback position and the injuries, while also finding some time to discuss the opportunity at hand for the NFC division title.”

Getting Mullens into the game was the right call. In fact, there’s a pretty persuasive case that he should have been the starter to begin the contest, but that possibility can’t be explored at this stage. Instead, Kevin O’Connell deserves credit simply for getting his other QB into the game.

We also think of Brian Flores and the tremendous work he’s doing with his side of the ball. Currently, the Vikings have the 5th-best defense in the NFL when it comes to points against (on average). Just remarkable stuff.

Flores deserves to be a head coach. Bittersweet news, no doubt, and yet it’s the reality. Minnesota’s defensive coordinator has been leading a remarkable turnaround on defense, so it would be shocking if he sticks around as Minnesota’s DC moving forward.

The podcast ventures into various other topics. The insane amount of punting, the injury updates, and what looms on the schedule all get into the discussion. We even get into a few thoughts on how boring the game was, how many third down attempts there were, and the very neat Greg Joseph punt.

Folks who are into Vikings podcasts or think they’d like to get into Vikings podcasts should feel free to give Notes from the North a shot. Hop over to iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, or Podbean. My understanding is that you don’t need an account at these spots. Just press play and enjoy the pod.

Enjoy the listening, Vikings fan.
