Vikings Podcast: Minnesota’s Preseason is Underway

Pretty refreshing to finally see some Vikings football, isn’t it? Predictably enough, Sizzlin’ Sam and I respond accordingly. In the latest episode of Notes from the North — a humble Vikings podcast — we look backward and forward as the team’s preseason journey continues.

Luiji Vilain — a Canadian! — did plenty of good things on Thursday night. He looked explosive out there, consistently generating pressure for Brian Flores’ defense. The strip/sack stands out as his crowning achievement, but his impact extended beyond just that single play. Vilain’s performance gives him a fresh chance of snagging one of the coveted spots on the team’s roster, as we discuss on the podcast.
Jaren Hall, the 5th-round QB, has been getting plenty of attention.
On Notes, Sizzlin’ Sam and I take a few moments to unpack what we’re looking to see from him moving forward. A separate piece on PurplePTSD expands on those thoughts, making the case for “simple excellence” being the key: “Moving forward, Hall’s mandate is to do the small things at an excellent level. Playing quarterback is about more than just tossing deep bombs (as great as those are). Hall has the luxury of taking things slowly, honing the various skills that come with being an NFL QB.”
We also spend some time discussing the upcoming Titans week.
Mike Vrabel’s team will have a pair of practices at TCO Performance Center. In so doing, the Titans and Vikings will give themselves a unique shot at evaluating their rosters. Battling against talent from a different team gives Minnesota a different vantage point from which to assess their team. Expect plenty of intensity on Wednesday and Thursday. Plus, the Saturday preseason game will have a bit of added emotion since the two sides will know each other well.
