Vikings Podcast: So, How Good is Caleb Williams?

Obviously, the title is a bit tongue in cheek, but there’s some doom & gloom in Vikings Land (sinking to 0-3 can do that). On the latest episode of Notes from the North — a humble Vikings podcast — Sizzlin’ Sam and I return to the microphone to discuss all that went wrong for Minnesota.

Take a look at what Sizzlin’ Sam had to say: “Kyle and Sam are back again, and no, they are not giving up on the season. But after a disappointing 0-3 start with a comedy of errors again, this time against the Chargers, there are questions about how this team should proceed and what the goal of the season should be. They discuss the issues against the Chargers, debate the direction of the team, and discuss the concerns that exist depending on the route the Vikings go for the rest of the season.”

Kirk Cousins has been playing winning football. The team hasn’t given him what he needs to push that QB record into a better spot.

True, Cousins threw the interception to finish off the game, but that’s not the main issue. Failing to clock the football at the very end of the game was a remarkably stupid decision. Kevin O’Connell spoke about the situation a fair bit in his postgame press conference, but none of the answers did much to alleviate the disappointment. Spiking the football is the appropriate move in that instance.

Defensively, the team continues to fail in the pass rushing department. If Danielle Hunter isn’t getting it done, the Vikings aren’t applying pressure on the QB. Ivan Pace is the next most formidable pass-rushing threat for the Vikings and that’s a major problem.

At other moments in the podcast, Sizzlin’ Sam and I venture into the referees helping the Vikings, Brandon Staley’s poor decision to go for it on 4th down, and where the season goes from here. Oh, and there’s even some chatter about what kind of talent could be added in the upcoming draft.
