The Minnesota Vikings home, U.S. Bank Stadium is evidently one of the world’s ugliest buildings, according to a study conveyed by U.K.-based Buildworld. The company collected various tweets about buildings and ranked how often each was mentioned alongside a criticism of its design, and in the end, U.S. Bank Stadium came in 12th in the entire world.

The Vikings home stadium was criticized in 15.47% of the tweets mentioning it. U.S. Bank Stadium landed between the Royal Liverpool Hospital in Liverpool, England, and Antilia in Mumbai, India, which came in 13th and 11th, respectively.

Apparently, either Americans make ugly buildings in general, or they just like to complain about them because while U.S. Bank Stadium ranked 12th-ugliest in the world, it still is just 7th in the U.S. Ahead of the Bank are the following buildings in the U.S.:

  1. J. Edgar Hoover Building (Washington D.C.)
  2. Boston City Hall (Boston, MA)
  3. Verizon Building (New York City, NY)
  4. Watergate complex (Washington D.C.)
  5. The Denver International Airport (Denver, CO)
  6. Trump Tower (Las Vegas, NV)

Of the 68 buildings included, 22 of them are on American soil, so nearly a third of the world’s ugliest buildings land within this country, according to Buildworld‘s study. They described the process, “Buildworld curated a long list of buildings from around the world, the UK and the U.S. that are often said to be ugly. We identified all the design-themed tweets about these buildings on Twitter. Then we used a sentiment analysis tool called HuggingFace to analyze the percentage of tweets that were negative about each building’s design.”

U.S. Bank Stadium opened in 2016, has served as the Vikings home since, and has offered Minnesota the NFL’s fourth-best homefield advantage in the last seven years (the Vikings are 39-18 [.684] in home games since 2016). Apparently, it just isn’t that pretty of a building to look at.

Three years ago, ESPN named U.S. Bank the fifth-best NFL stadium, behind only Lambeau Field, Lumen Field (at the time, it was called CenturyLink Field), Arrowhead Stadium, and Heinz Field. So, that completely contradicts what Buildworld suggests.

All that being said, we’ll leave the topic of architecture and design up to others while we discuss the Vikings offseason.
