3 Vikings Free Agents Remain Unsigned. Will Any Return to Minnesota?
To this point, the 2023 offseason has brought many changes to the Minnesota Vikings roster. We’ve seen fan-favorites like LB Eric Kendricks and WR Adam Thielen be released and move on to new teams while new, younger faces have come into to replace veteran production. With much of the dust now settled, there are only three Vikings free agents that remain on the open market. Let’s take a look at whether or not they could return to Minnesota for another year.
CB Kris Boyd
Kris Boyd has been with the Vikings for each of his first four NFL seasons after being drafted in the seventh round. Considering the lack of veteran depth in Minnesota’s CB room, and the fact that he is still only 26 years old, it would make sense for the Vikings to bring him back.
However, there has been recent noise regarding Boyd’s free agency. He recently visited the New York Giants and could join a defense that took a major turn in the right direction during the 2022 season under Wink Martindale.
WR Bisi Johnson
There has been some buzz around Bisi Johnson in free agency so far, but nothing appears imminent as of now. Recently, the Vikings wide receiver went for a visit with the New England Patriots.
Johnson had a strong rookie season in 2019, catching 31 passes for 294 yards and 3 TDs, but Justin Jefferson’s emergence in 2020 put him in the backseat. Then, torn ACLs in both 2021 and 2022 shelved him before the seasons could even begin. He may be looking for greener pastures this offseason seeing as his tenure in Minnesota has not gone anywhere near according to plan.
CB Chandon Sullivan
Chandon Sullivan became a Packers deserter when he joined the Minnesota Vikings along with Za’Darius Smith. However, 2022 was the least productive season of the 26-year-old’s career, and even with the Vikings lack of CB depth, they may be looking to go in a different direction for the 2023 season.
Again, though, nothing has appeared imminent with his free agency status, so everything is on the table for the veteran corner. Perhaps he can have a bounce-back year in Minnesota if given another chance to contribute.
