The Vikings’ Depth Chart Going Into Week 3 vs. the Chargers
The Vikings’ depth chart is becoming increasingly clear as the season unfolds.
No matter what the unofficial team announcement suggests, Minnesota is looking to UDFA stud Ivan Pace Jr. to be the team’s LB2. By the season’s end, Pace may even be the LB1. Meanwhile, Jordan Addison has quietly stolen away the WR2 job, an outcome that has long been foreseeable. K.J. Osborn is likely looking at a WR3 assignment for the rest of the year.
Camryn Bynum has been shining whereas Patrick Jones hasn’t. Expect the snaps to reflect those realities accordingly.
Blake Brandel is still a backup at guard but will he eventually get the call to take over the RG1 job? That prospect looks unlikely with Dalton Risner in the house, but there’s a small chance we see the former Bronco taking over at LT while Christian Darrisaw heals. And what of Cam Akers? The former Ram was brought to town for a reason, so the RB2 spot seems like a decent guess.
The Chargers are entering the game as near equals to Minnesota (which isn’t necessarily a good thing). Indeed, we’re staring down a battle between a pair of 0-2 teams.
Justin Herbert is leading a talented offense, one that doesn’t always live up to its potential. Their defense, meanwhile, hasn’t exactly taken over the NFL. In Week 1, the Chargers allowed Miami to pile up 36 points; as an encore, the defense let Ryan Tannehill’s Titans get to 27 points. So, the Vikings offense should have a good day at the office today, but we’ll have to see what actually transpires once the game takes place.
Take a peak at how things look for the roster hierarchy.
