The Vikings Depth Chart as the Preseason Nears its Conclusion

So far, the Vikings have completed a pair of preseason games. Both losses, the Vikings have still learned a lot about themselves in the Seahawks and Titans skirmishes. Next up will be the Cardinals, a team that comes to Minnesota early to participate in joint practices before the Saturday game.
Against Seattle, several players stood our for Minnesota, leading to an adjustment in the Vikings depth chart. Luiji Vilain performed admirably, giving the Canadian a better chance of snagging one of the coveted edge rusher spots behind Danielle Hunter and Marcus Davenport. On offense, Ty Chandler did plenty to show that he’s Minnesota’s RB2. Jalen Reagor and Brandon Powell each showed off some good stuff, too.

Over at Vikings Territory, Dustin Baker was quick to send praise in NaJee Thompson’s direction: “Because of special teams’ prowess, Thompson went from sure-thing-roster-cut to sure-thing-roster-bubble personality in about two hours in Seattle. He tackled punt returners and downed punts deep in Seattle’s territory.”
The effort against Tennessee simply re-confirmed what has been plain to see: Thompson is a monster on special teams. He’s going to make the roster.

A lot of Vikings fans will be hoping to see these players continue shining as others assert themselves. A more decisive, explosive DeWayne McBride would be a welcome sight. Andrew Booth isn’t going to be cut, but he is jostling for position within the CB hierarchy. Ivan Pace has been mostly excellent but the same can’t be said about the iOL.
How does the competition look at all of these positions? Who is slotting in where?
The Cardinals game will begin at 12 p.m. CDT. Kevin O’Connell is still looking for his first ever win in the preseason. For more info on the team’s roster, check out the Vikings’ website.
