UCLA QB Confirms He Has Met with the Vikings at the NFL Combine
The Minnesota Vikings are one of the teams entering the offseason with a potential need at the quarterback position. There is some thought that perhaps they could trade up into the early first round to snag one of the top players at the position.
However, there are plenty of players that could be available later on in the draft. One such prospect is UCLA QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and during his press conference at the NFL Combine, he confirmed that he has met with the Vikings.
Thompson-Robinson is a bit on the smaller side as a prospect, expecting to measure in around 6’1 and 205 pounds. However, he is another player in this draft that optimally utilized a dual-threat playmaking ability.
In each of the last two seasons, he rushed for over 600 yards and totaled 21 rushing TDs over those 2021 and 2022 seasons. In all, the QB played five seasons at UCLA, appearing in 49 games and completing 63.3% of his passes for 10,710 yards, 88 TDs, and 36 INTs. He also had a total of 1826 rushing yards and 28 rushing TDs over those five seasons.
In 2022, Thompson-Robinson helped lead UCLA to their first bowl berth of the Chip Kelly coaching era, and their first since 2017 by going 9-3 to make the Sun Bowl. Unfortunately, they lost that bowl game to Pittsburgh by a score of 37-35.
The Vikings almost certainly will start Kirk Cousins at quarterback in 2023, but they do need to start considering their plans for the future at that position. This meeting doesn’t necessarily mean that Minnesota will draft Thompson-Robinson in April, but it does confirm that they are looking at potential prospects to draft at the QB position.
