Two Vikings Did Not Practice on Wednesday Ahead of Week 3

The Minnesota Vikings came out of their Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles a bit banged up in the injury department.

All three of Garrett Bradbury, Christian Darrisaw, and Marcus Davenport sat out with injuries while Akayleb Evans, Jordan Hicks, and Josh Metellus left the game at different points. And, of course, Oli Udoh is out for the remainder of the season with his torn quad.

Wednesday’s injury report for the Vikings indicated that these injuries are still lingering. Two Vikings sat out of the practice session while four more were limited.

Here is what the full injury report looked like for Minnesota on Wednesday:

  • C Garrett Bradbury (Back, DNP)
  • LT Christian Darrisaw (Ankle, limited)
  • OLB Marcus Davenport (Ankle, DNP)
  • LB Jordan Hicks (Shin, limited)
  • S Josh Metellus (Shoulder, limited)
  • WR Jalen Nailor (Hamstring, limited)

It seems that Bradbury and Davenport may be trending towards missing yet another game to begin the year. Bradbury played just seven snaps in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before leaving the game with his back injury. Since then, it has been Austin Schlottmann taking snaps at center.

Meanwhile, Davenport missed the season opener against Tampa Bay and played just four snaps against the Eagles last week before leaving for good. In his stead, both Patrick Jones and D.J. Wonnum have been getting extra defensive snaps.

It is promising to see that Darrisaw has at least been able to participate in practice. He missed Week 2 against the Eagles, and Udoh got the start in his place. Following Udoh’s injury, it was David Quessenberry who took his spot at left tackle. If Darrisaw were to miss Sunday’s game, it likely will be Quessenberry once again.

As for Hicks and Metellus, they have been “do-it-all” defenders for the Vikings, being amongst the snap leaders for the defense in each of the first two weeks of the season. Hopefully, both players will be able to go on Sunday.

The Chargers are dealing with plenty of their own injuries ahead of this game as well, including RB Austin Ekeler and LB Eric Kendricks who sat out Wednesday’s practice. Both teams will release two more injury reports on Thursday and Friday, so the situations for each team will become clearer in the next couple days.

Each group enters Week 3 a bit desperate for a win. Both the Chargers and Vikings are 0-2 to begin the season. Making matters worse, the Chargers have lost their two games by a combined five points while the Vikings are a -9 in point differential. An 0-3 start would spell disaster for the rest of the season.

Kickoff between the two teams is scheduled for Sunday, September 24th at 12 PM Central inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
