What’s on The Menu? Vikings Writers Share their Upcoming NFL Draft Snacks

NFL: 2017 NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Super Bowl gets all the buzz, but we musn’t forget the NFL Draft. What’s on the menu for one of the league’s premier events?

Very intentionally, we here at PurplePTSD are offering this piece at noon. Hopefully, the timing allows readers to satisfy any hunger pangs that arise as a result of reading about some of the food that PurplePTSD and Vikings Territory writers will be partaking in during the NFL Draft.

The fine folks who keep content on our sites are an eclectic bunch, full of various quirks and preferences. Reaching out to them for their food takes didn’t disappoint.

Will Goodwin and Jordan Hawthorne are the masterminds behind the Load the Box podcast. Somewhat oddly, Goodwin is leaning toward cereal, citing cocoa crisps and frosted flakes for their calming effect (and, presumably, wonderful flavor). Meanwhile, Hawthorne suggests that hot wings are the way to go, even noting there could be a federal law dictating that partaking in the spicy chicken is mandated from up on high.

Henrique Gucciardi joined the fun, noting that pizza is the way to go. A classic, pizza will seldom disappoint. It’s the equivalent of drafting a player because they have both a very high floor and ceiling.

Mr. Josh Frey – draft aficionado and manager editor on PurplePTSD – humbly submitted nachos as his answer (though he has previously mentioned his affinity for jalapeno poppers). Nachos are the equivalent of a versatile defender. We can ask them to do a lot of different things and, if the right person is in charge, the nachos will perform admirably.

My partner-in-crime and sizzlin’ podcast co-host recently suggested that cheesy garlic bread is the way to go after an episode of Notes from the North. Few things in life are better than grilled carbs that have been loaded with cheese and garlic. I’ll have what Sizzlin’ Sam is having, thank you very much.

On my end, I’ll be feasting on meatballs, jalapeno poppers (with bacon, of course), and mozza sticks. Mrs. Joudry – who offers the brain, brawn, and beauty in my household – has been chipping away at the snacks all week. I’m beginning to believe she is watching the opening round due to the wonderful food and not because she cares about seeing draft prospects whom she has never heard of get sent to teams she doesn’t care about.

And what about you, valued reader? Do you have something special on the menu for the NFL Draft? If so, let me know on Twitter or hit up the site account.

Stay safe, eat great food, and keep cheering for the Vikings. Words to live by.

The event begins at 7 CT.
