The video game aficionados may be particularly interested in the Madden promotional video. Rubbing salt in the Vikings’ wound isn’t going to inspire good feelings among purple fans, though.

Earlier in the day, the Madden clip emerged on Twitter. Vikings fans likely perked up when the purple jersey flashed onto the screen. Unfortunately, the highlights lowlights come from a Dallas game. The video game clip involves Kirk Cousins tossing an interception to Trevon Diggs, getting walloped by Micah Parsons, and then having the edge rusher talk trash.

Salt in the Vikings’ Wound…Madden Style

The clip isn’t particularly flattering. Take a look for yourself.

Parsons even gets a finger wag in Cousins’ face to underscore that he got the better of Minnesota’s QB. And, to be sure, a hit between the two would likely result in the Dallas defender getting the upper hand.

Thankfully, the Vikings aren’t the only team to see one of their players put in a less than flattering positions.

At the very end of the video, Josh Allen absolutely bulldozes Baltimore linebacker Patrick Queen. Allen isn’t built like a normal quarterback – something that was abundantly clear when he hurdled Anthony Barr a few years ago – but a linebacker never wants to get run over by a quarterback. Generally speaking, it’s the LB who is trying to land a huge hit on the QB.

In real life, the Vikings haven’t been doing particularly well against the Cowboys. Last year, Dallas thoroughly dismantled Minnesota, winning the game 40-3. Arguably, it was the worst game of the season for Kevin O’Connell’s squad.

Even more discouraging is how things started. Parsons almost immediately made an impact, getting around stud left tackle Christian Darrisaw to land a strip-sack on Cousins:

The play set the tone for the remainder of the game. An ugly beginning foreshadowed an ugly finish (which is to say noting of the ugliness that transpired in between the start and finish).

For whatever it’s worth, there is a brief moment in the Madden clip where Justin Jefferson catches a pass before juking Tampa Bay’s Antoine Winfield Jr. In Week 1, the Buccaneers come to Minnesota, so Jefferson will get a chance to fulfill the Madden prophecy (watch out, AWJ).

In the end, the Vikings shouldn’t care too much about what Madden includes in their video promos. Succeeding in real life is of far more importance to O’Connell, Cousins, and the rest of the organization.

Dallas and Minnesota don’t face each other in 2023, but a playoff bout wouldn’t be surprising since each team is taking aim at being the NFC representative in the Super Bowl. The Vikings have lost to the Cowboys in three-straight seasons.

Buffalo’s Josh Allen is on the cover of Madden 24.
