Last Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings took part in their first preseason action of the 2023 season, playing against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Vikings lost that game, and towards the end of the evening, LB William Kwenkeu went down with an injury and would not return to the field. In the following days, Minneosta waived Kwenkeu in order to sign Tanner Vallejo. After going unclaimed, Kwenkeu went to IR on Tuesday.

KPRC2‘s Aaron Wilson tweeted the news Tuesday afternoon by writing, “Vikings placed William Kwenkeu on IR after being waived-injured.”

Kwenkeu signed with the Vikings after being an undrafted free agent in 2022 and spent his rookie season in Minnesota. He appeared in six games last season for the Vikings and recorded 2 tackles, including a tackle for loss.

The linebacker spent his collegiate years at Temple, spending a total of six seasons with the Owls from 2016-2021. He recorded 183 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks over those six years. His strongest season came during his final year of 2021 when he put together 51 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks.

Just days before his injury, Kwenkeu received praise from special teams coordinator Matt Daniels for his work with that unit.

Minnesota has already placed two other players on injured reserve this summer in WR Malik Knowles and DT James Lynch.
