Shortly after the 45-second mark, Kirk Cousins makes an unusual suggestion in a promotion for the upcoming NFL season.

Shirt off and with several massive chains around his neck, Minnesota’s QB1 indicates that the NFL may consider adopting a “shirts vs. skins” format. Keegan-Michael Key, who is leading the table read, affirms the idea: “I like it Kirko!” Obviously, the NFL is playing off of Cousins’ Kirko Chainz persona that had him dancing on the team plane following huge victories. The videos of a Vikings QB with no shirt and huge necklaces provided a glimpse into a different side of Cousins, someone more well known for his dad style.

Kirk Cousins, Keegan-Michael Key, and The NFL Script

Take a look at the full video:

Last year, former NFL running back Arian Foster got into the headlines with the claim that the NFL was scripted. Very wisely, the league has chosen to build off of that claim by using it as a launching pad for a set of humorous videos.

In fact, Cousins gets featured more prominently in the next video, kicking things off with the insistence that the upcoming season should feature him getting a ring to partner with his chains before going on to endorse the idea of outright banning sacks:

Vikings fans would be very happy to see the upcoming season result in a ring for Cousins’ finger. Currently, the 11-year vet has only a single postseason win on his resume, so climbing to the top of Mount Lombardi would be both unexpected and marvellous. And, to be sure, doing so would silence a lot of the doubt.

In his most recent press conference, Cousins responded to a question about the video clip. “I always run everything by my wife,” Cousins explains. In her mind, “this could be pretty good.” Shortly thereafter, Cousins notes that it was “fun” and that working alongside Keegan-Michael Key was a critical part of the equation: “With him leading it I think we had a fighting chance.”

Very few are able to predict what the upcoming season holds for the Vikings. The defense is in the midst of a rebuild while the offense and special teams are being tasked with keeping the ship afloat. Minnesota’s plan is to maintain their spot in the playoffs as they allow youth to mature on the fly for Brian Flores.

The NFC North isn’t as formidable as in past years given that Aaron Rodgers is no longer leading the charge in Green Bay, so the Vikings have a shot to win back-to-back division titles for the first time since the 2008-09 seasons.

Kirk Cousins and the Vikings get their year going on September 10th when Baker Mayfield leads his Buccaneers into U.S. Bank Stadium. By no means a sure victory, the Week 1 game still does point to a strong start in Minnesota. In theory, the team should climb up to 1-0 before a more daunting test in Week 2: a road game against the Eagles.

The script is sure to contain some twists and turns, so Vikings fans will need to tune in to see how the year unfolds.
