In the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings ultimately ended up selecting USC wide receiver Jordan Addison with the 23rd overall pick. The receiver has a great skillset that should translate well to the NFL level, but it appears that the Vikings may have missed one little blemish on him while doing their scouting: a quick trigger with the hang-up button.

On Friday afternoon, the Vikings released a 15-minute video of the events that happened over draft weekend. That video contains a few clips of Addison chatting with a number of people within the organization following being selected in the draft, but on multiple occasions, Addison hilariously hung up on the Vikings personnel, thinking the conversation was over. Then, the team made him relive his draft night ‘oops’ by having him watch the clips back and react to them. Take a look:

Right off the bat, we see Addison hang up before getting a chance to talk to head coach O’Connell immediately after being selected. However, the blame here may fall on Adofo-Mensah more than Addison, considering it appears that the Vikings GM said “be easy” before handing the phone off to the head coach.

Taking this as a sign-off to the conversation, Addison hung up the phone and began celebrating the fact that he would be a first-round draft pick. By the time O’Connell got the phone, there was nobody on the other line, leading him to remark, “I guess when the general manager says ‘be easy’, you can hang up.”

Moments later, O’Connell finally got on the phone with Addison, but once again, the receiver once again hung up at the end of their conversation. The Vikings head coach said “go ahead celebrate with your family” before trying to hand the phone off to offensive coordinator Wes Phillips. By the time Phillips got the phone, it was silence on the other end of the line.

Addison tried explaining, “they was saying it on the TV and I’m thinking I gotta get off the phone so I can go cause they was kinda like rushing it, so I hung up, I started cheering and everything. I got up outta there.”

It’s understandable that he’d be excited to get on with the celebration considering that draft night is something Addison had put years of hard work into. Combine that with some mixed signals from the Vikings staff. Hopefully, all the kinks in the communication lines get worked out prior to Week 1.

This is some funny stuff and shows some of the more light-hearted side of a very stressful weekend for all 32 NFL franchises as they decided who to stake the future of their organizations on. The full video is absolutely worth a watch, so be sure to take a look at it here.
