If the Vikings were to sign another free agent this summer to fill out their 90-man training camp roster, one position that many suspect Minnesota to target is the cornerback spot.

The Vikings currently have one of the most inexperienced groups of cornerbacks in recent memory, with Byron Murphy being the only player in the room with extended starting experience. As for potential targets in the market, many have linked free agent CB Marcus Peters to the team. However, this weekend, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported via Twitter that the three-time All-Pro visited with the Las Vegas Raiders, saying, “The #Raiders will host FA CB Marcus Peters for a visit and workout on Monday, sources say. Las Vegas visited with Peters earlier this spring, now will take another close look before training camp. The former All-Pro and Pro Bowler had been with the Ravens since 2019.”

Peters, 30, got his NFL career started with the Kansas City Chiefs after they took him 18th overall in the 2015 Draft. He immediately made an impact with the team, recording a league-leading 8 interceptions during his rookie season and being named the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Peters spent three seasons with the Chiefs before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams prior to the 2018 season. He played 22 games for the Rams over about 1.5 seasons, and he was then traded once again. This time, he joined the Baltimore Ravens during the 2019 season where he has been ever since.

In all, Peters has been a ball-hawking corner throughout his entire career. Going into 2022, he had recorded three or more interceptions in each of his first six seasons. He had a bit of a down year in 2022, playing just 13 games because of a calf injury suffered in December. He recorded only one interception during his final season in Baltimore.

As Rapoport reported, Peters visited with the Raiders earlier in the spring, and now, this workout was another opportunity to show the team what he has left in the tank heading into his age-30 season.

There are certainly other options at CB remaining in free agency, but Peters is the cream of the crop at this point due to his extensive success as a starter.
