Former Vikings Center Decides His 2022 Season Isn’t Over Yet, Signs with Bills
When the Vikings lost both Garrett Bradbury and Austin Schlottmann to injuries earlier in the 2022 season, they brought on veteran center Greg Mancz as their backup behind Chris Reed, who was taking his first snaps at center of his NFL career.
As it turned out, the Vikings did not need Mancz’s services for too long as Bradbury was able to return in time for their Wild Card game against the New York Giants. With that, the Vikings waived Mancz and rode into their playoff game with Bradbury and Reed as their two options.
Well, the former Vikings center has decided that he isn’t ready for his 2022 season to end just yet, and he is signing with the Buffalo Bills, joining their practice squad.
Buffalo also put Alex Anderson on the practice squad injured list in order to create the spot for Mancz.
After defeating the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round last weekend, Buffalo is now set to play host to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM CST. This is, of course, a rematch of the game that was cancelled after Bills safety Damar Hamlin needed to receive CPR on the field following a hit delivered by Bengals WR Tee Higgins. Thankfully, everything with Hamlin appears to be on the up-and-up.
If the Bills win that game, they would go on to face the winner of Chiefs/Jaguars, which will be played on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM CST. A game against the Chiefs would feature the two teams that caused the new overtime rule where both teams will be able to possess the ball during the extra period.
Prior to signing with the Vikings, Mancz was actually a member of the Buffalo Bills earlier in the season. He appeared in Buffalo’s Week 3 game against the Miami Dolphins, playing 23 offensive snaps and 4 special teams snaps. We’ll see if he can get on the field this weekend.
