For a little while, PurplePTSD’s free agent tracker labored under the weight of the voluminous deals and details, contracts and costs. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been a busy man since taking over as the Vikings’ GM.

Part of the initial vision was to relay the news about free agent signings by giving the date of the deal, the player’s former team, the position, and then to peel back the curtain a touch on the contract.

Helpful? Hopefully. Ambitious? Undoubtedly. Sustainable? Maybe not. We’ve therefore reached a pivot point.

Rather than accounting for all of the signings, we’re going to shift our focus to the contracts for players coming from outside of the organization. Indeed, from 2024 onward, the focus is going to be on players who were brought aboard from outside of the organization. Doing so helps sort through some of the clutter while nevertheless highlighting a lot of the most impactful decisions from Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

Furthermore, the process will be simplified by omitting the cap details. Helping to clarify how a contract interacts with a year-to-year budget is laudable, but it’s a burden that has proven heavy to carry.
