Just like the NFL season is right around the corner, college campuses are preparing to welcome back their football squads for the fall season.

As the summer progresses we will be taking a look into how many of the FBS college football programs fared in 2022, what they did during the offseason, and how they can find success during the 2023 season. Today, we move onto the Kansas Jayhawks to discuss their chances in the Big 12 conference this upcoming season.

Jalon Daniels Has Star Potential

Jalon Daniels turned heads during the 2022 season not only with his arm talent, but also with his legs. He accrued 2014 passing yards and 18 TDs through the air compared to just 4 INTs. He also added 425 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs, averaging a very strong 5.5 yards per carry.

Ahead of a 2024 Draft that looks to be loaded at the QB position, this season is Daniels’ chance to stand out amongst the crowd. He has ridiculous arm talent, and during the Liberty Bowl last season, he closed out the year with a truly historic showing, totaling 544 passing yards (a school record) and 6 TDs.

Virtually No Losses on Offense

If you took a peek at the “notable losses” section, you probably noticed that it was extraordinarily thin. This is because the Jayhawks maintained just about every main piece from their 2022 team, particularly on offense.

The group returns 10 starters from last season, and they added a stud offensive tackle in Wisconsin transfer Logan Brown. If they look anything like the 2022 group that averaged 35.6 points per game, this will be a very fun program to watch.

Can Kansas Improve Defensively?

Ultimately, what held Kansas back from being even better in 2022 was their defensive group. The unit cancelled out the effort from their offense, allowing 35.5 points per game a season ago.

However, they did add some intriguing pieces in LB JB Brown and CB Damarius McGhee. This should help a passing defense that PFF graded as the third-worst coverage group in the conference last year.
