Vikings Snap Counts for Week 15 at Cincinnati

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens (12) throws under pressure fro Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard (94) in the first quarter of a Week 15 NFL football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals, Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.

The Minnesota Vikings stumbled yet again on Saturday, falling to the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 27-24.

The overtime loss dropped the Vikings to 7-7 on the season, and now, all they can do is wait and hope that their cushion for the No. 6 seed in the NFC doesn’t completely diminish. With the game in the books, here is a look at the Vikings snap counts for Week 15.

The Vikings went into Week 15 shorthanded at multiple positions on offense. Both RB Alexander Mattison and RT Brian O’Neill were forced to sit out of the game with ankle injuries, thus meaning Ty Chandler had to take over the lead role in the backfield while David Quessenberry served as right tackle, making his second start of the season.

Justin Jefferson made his true return to the lineup on Saturday, though, and he was able to appear in 65 snaps and caught 7 passes for 84 yards on the day. However, his return relegated Brandon Powell’s role in the offense almost entirely. Powell played just two snaps on Saturday, both coming during the debacle that was the overtime QB sneaks.

The Vikings defense began this game on a similar pace to what we saw in Week 14 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Bengals offense had no answers for the group during the first half of the game, and once again, it was Ivan Pace and the safety trio to lead the way for Minnesota in snaps.

Troy Dye and Sheldon Day continue to see increased action with the defense over the past few weeks, and Day actually received the unit’s second-highest PFF grade on the day, recording a tackle and a pair of QB pressures.

After having a diminished role with the group in recent weeks, Josh Metellus also jumped back up into double-digits this week. The safety had 15 snaps with the group for the first time since Week 9. Hakeem Adeniji was also active for just the second time this season, and he got four special teams snaps of his own.
