Questions Answered: Dalvin’s Surgery, the Head Coach Rule Change, 2023 SB Odds

Q: Why would Dalvin Cook have surgery four years after his injury?

A: He likely knows that an offseason of personal change is afoot and wants to be completely healthy entering his age-28 season — either with a new team or the Vikings.

Cook’s $14 million cap hit in 2022 is a figure not likely enjoyed by the Vikings analytics-focused front office. $14 million is too expensive for a running back, and teams with expensive running backs basically never win Super Bowls.

Cook probably cleared up the lingering shoulder issue to be fully good to go for his new team.

Q: What do you think of the proposed head coaching change?

A: The new rule would disallow head coaching hires until after the Super Bowl. It could kill the January Black Monday and make the day after the Super Bowl ultra-intense.

So, let’s do it.

The Vikings don’t have to worry about this affecting their lives anytime soon, and we, therefore, fully endorse it. It’ll be fun.

Of course, a lot of tampering will probably result — but when is that not the case?

Let’s give it a whirl.

Q: Why do the Vikings have such low Super Bowl odds?

A: They had an upside-down point differential in 2022, and many media entities believe the team was a fraud.

And they lost to the meh New York Giants at home in the first round of the playoffs. It made the “Vikings are frauds” personalities seem brilliant.

Ergo, as of early February, the Vikings owning the 17th-best Super Bowl odds (+4000) is a continuation of the 2022 fraud talker. Once again, in 2023, Minnesota will have to prove itself. They’re essentially perceived by oddsmakers in the same territory as the New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers.
