Injuries are a very unfortunate part of the NFL, and few players understand these injury risks as well as former Vikings receiver Bisi Johnson.

The receiver has had multiple seasons marred by injuries throughout his career, but he’s working to get back on the field this season. This week, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson tweeted, “Texans worked out Khalil Davis, Mark Gilbert, Olabisi Johnson, Dalton Keene, and Michael Menet.”

Johnson was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Vikings, being picked with the 247th overall selection. He immediately outplayed the draft stock used on him by not only making the 53-man roster, but also appearing in 16 games and starting six times. In all, he caught 31 of 45 targets for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 17 yards during the playoffs.

Johnson’s role took a step back during the 2020 season, largely because of the selection of Justin Jefferson during the first round of that spring’s draft. However, he still made appearances in 16 games and began the year as Minnesota’s WR2 while Jefferson grew accustomed to the NFL level. The second-year receiver would catch 14 passes for 189 yards during the season.

However, 2020’s Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions would prove to be his final NFL regular season game (at least to this point in his career). During training camp in 2021, Johnson tore an ACL that knocked him out for the entire season.

Johnson was intent on a comeback in 2022, but once again, an ACL tear would knock him out. Making matters worse, the injury took place during the final preseason game of the summer and was a tear in the opposite knee. During his press conference following the game, O’Connell stated that the wide receiver had done enough to make the final roster if he had stayed healthy.

The 26-year-old receiver has been available in free agency ever since, and hopefully, the promising young player gets a chance to catch on with an NFL team this summer. If that team were to be the Houston Texans, he would join a receiver group that includes Robert Woods, John Metchie III, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Noah Brown, Xavier Hutchinson, Jalen Camp, Johnny Johnson III, Steven Sims, Jared Wayne, Alex Bachman, and Jesse Matthews.
