NFL training camps are kicking off across the league, and considering the Minnesota Vikings still have an open roster spot after a slew of moves on Monday, many are wondering who Minnesota could fill the spot with.

Many have hoped the Vikings will target a cornerback, but one of the remaining top free agent CB options went off the board on Monday afternoon as Marcus Peters signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the deal, tweeting, “The #Raiders have reached an agreement with former #Ravens Pro Bowl CB Marcus Peters, sources say. Peters, who had an impressive workout today, gets a 1-year deal and Las Vegas gets a talented player right before camp.”

Peters, 30, was connected to the Vikings on multiple occasions this offseason as a potential target to add more of a veteran starting presence to Minnesota’s extremely young cornerback room.

The cornerback got his NFL career started with the Kansas City Chiefs after they took him 18th overall in the 2015 Draft. He immediately made an impact with the team, recording a league-leading 8 interceptions during his rookie season and being named the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Peters spent three seasons with the Chiefs before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams prior to the 2018 season. He played 22 games for the Rams over about 1.5 seasons, and he was then traded once again. This time, he joined the Baltimore Ravens during the 2019 season where he had been ever since before signing with the Raiders.

In all, Peters has been a ball-hawking corner throughout his entire NFL career. Going into 2022, he had recorded three or more interceptions in each of his first six seasons. He had a bit of a down year in 2022, playing just 13 games because of a calf injury suffered in December. He recorded only one interception during his final season in Baltimore.

The 30-year-old cornerback now joins a Raiders secondary that also features former Viking Duke Shelley.
