A Big Free Agency Domino Dropped Over the Weekend
NFL training camp report dates are just about a week away for most teams, and as a result, we haven’t seen nearly as much free agency news over the past month or so. However, there are still big fish to be landed in the market, and over the weekend, a massive free agency domino fell.
After being released by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this spring, it appears that three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has finally decided on his next team. According to a report by Doug Kyed, Hopkins will be signing with the Tennessee Titans in the coming days, joining a rival of the Houston Texans, who drafted him back in 2013.
Ian Rapoport later confirmed the deal and added that it will be a two-year contract worth $26 million with incentives potentially pushing that total to $32 million. His base salary in 2023 will be $12 million and can be worth up to $15 million with the said incentives.
This is important because there have been rumors of Dalvin Cook and Hopkins potentially teaming up this season. Considering Derrick Henry is still in Tennessee, that possibility seems to officially have gone out the window.
Cook, 28, remains on the free agency market with a number of potential fits, with most of them landing within the AFC East. After six seasons with the Vikings, including four straight with at least 1100 rushing yards, Minnesota opted to release the veteran RB to free up cap space.
With Hopkins no longer on the market, Cook is arguably the top target remaining, especially on the offensive side of the ball. With camp looming, it should be an eventful couple weeks as the former Vikings RB and other veterans try to decide on teams for the 2023 season.
