3 CBs the Vikings Can Still Target in Free Agency
Free agency has certainly slowed down over the past few days after the frenzy of the opening weeks. However, Minnesota still finds themselves with a major need in the secondary, especially at the cornerback position. Perhaps Minnesota could opt to take another young corner in the draft, but if they want to find another veteran presence, here are 3 CBs the Vikings could have their eye on.
Rock Ya-Sin
Rock Ya-Sin has been a bit of an inconsistent player throughout the early years of his career, but he has stepped up in a big way for the Raiders over the past couple years. In 2021, he allowed a completion percentage of just 53.3% on 45 targets. Additionally, he thrives in man coverage, and that fits perfectly into a Brian Flores scheme.
Ya-Sin, like Byron Murphy, is also on the younger side of the remaining options. He turns 27 years of age on May 23rd, so there is plenty of production in his future.
Tre Flowers
After the Cincinnati Bengals added Sidney Jones IV in free agency, it seemed like a sign the Tre Flowers time in Cincy had come to an end. He burst onto the NFL scene in 2018 after being a fifth-round pick that spring by the Seattle Seahawks and started 15 games in each of his first two seasons.
If the Vikings target the soon-to-be 28-year-old Flowers in free agency, he likely would be used strictly as an outside cornerback, but with Murphy’s ability to play in the slot, this still opens the door to a starting spot for him along with one of the younger Vikings like Andrew Booth Jr. or Akayleb Evans.
Bradley Roby
Bradley Roby would certainly be on the older side of the remaining options in free agency, but nonetheless, the Vikings ideally should get at least one more veteran player for their locker room. Roby fits into that category, and throughout his career, he has been one of the better slot corners in the NFL.
During 2022 with the New Orleans Saints, Roby appeared in 13 games, making 10 starts. Overall, he recorded 36 tackles and 5 passes defended throughout the season. He will turn 31 in May, but it is reasonable to believe that he still has some solid football left in him.
