The Vikings’ Depth Chart Going into their Week 14 Game at the Raiders

The Vikings’ depth chart contains at least one notable surprise: the continued presence of Josh Dobbs at QB1.

On Wednesday, Kevin O’Connell confirmed that he’d be sticking with Dobbs as the main man. The head coach thinks that continued belief in Dobbs will pay off as the journeyman keeps getting himself acclimated to the Vikings offense. And, of course, we think of the major addition at WR1: Justin Jefferson is back in the saddle.

O’Connell is hoping that the Joshua and Justin marriage will flourish for the Vikings, but only time will tell.

A notable part of the head coach’s press conference is that he seemed to suggest that Nick Mullens would be ready if needed. In a lot of ways, that’s standard coach speak. Plus, any QB2 who is worthy of being a QB2 prepares like he’ll be needed for the game.

What was notable, though, was O’Connell’s conscious effort to swerve into the topic, putting a particular emphasis on the notion that Mullens will be ready. In Week 12, the coach considered inserting Mullens into the game and that possibility lingered into the bye. For now, the decision is to roll with Dobbs but a disastrous opening half would almost certainly lead to a Mullens sighting.

Apart from Dobbs and Jefferson, it’s notable that Akayleb Evans should be ready to roll. The CB2 missed some time recently, making things just a touch more difficult for the Brian Flores defense. Both Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers have some good size, so getting the long and strong corner back onto the field is a win.

Kickoff between the teams will take place at 3:05 p.m. later today. Pulling off the victory would mean Minnesota climbs up to 7-6 and will still reside in the #6 spot.
