Video: Check Out the Highlights from Harrison Smith’s Rookie Season

By the time it’s all said and done, there will be a pretty good case for Harrison Smith being the best safety of his generation. In his rookie year, Vikings fans could see that Smith was special. Take a look at this highlight video:

A few thoughts come to mind after watching the video. Perhaps the first thing I thought was that it was notable how aggressive Harrison Smith was when returning INTs. It’d be pretty easy to be content with just forcing a turnover, but the rookie clearly wanted to score. That takes a certain amount of confidence and effort. In each touchdown, Smith had to weave his way through a lot of players to get to the end zone.

Fast forward a decade and Harrison Smith is still playing at a high level. In all likelihood, his best days are behind him. Nevertheless, Kevin O’Connell was previously outspoken about how he views Smith as an ideal fit for the defense. Ed Donatell will be leaning on the veteran to lead the secondary, providing exemplary play while also helping to guide young DBs.
