Q: What could the Vikings get in trade value for Alexander Mattison as rumors swirl?

Alexander Mattison

A: The Vikings want a 3rd- or 4th-Rounder, the same capital a compensatory pick would net down the road.

The problem? A trading partner is severely unlikely to hand over that kind of draft capital — especially in a pass-heavy NFL. Running backs simply aren’t as coveted as they were two decades ago.

The broader takeaway is that the Vikings may not keep five RBs and FBs, meaning either Mattison or fullback C.J. Ham may not make the 53-man roster. If the Vikings believe getting something now for draft capital is important, Mattison would likely net a 5th- or 6th-Round draft pick in return.

Minnesota is believed to be “listening to offers for Mattison,” not actively shopping him.

Q: Did T.Y. McGill get released or not?

A: Adam Schefter reported McGill’s release on Monday morning.

That was evidently false.

McGill is on injured reserve as his initial diagnosis of “one to two weeks” for an ankle injury suffered in Denver must’ve been false.

Regardless, you won’t see him for a while. McGill has a wonderful preseason.

Q: Will Myron Mitchell land on the practice squad after his release?

A: Yes, probably, but he must clear waivers first.

Mitchell made some neat highlights in training camp, increasing his likelihood of making the 53-man roster. But it wasn’t quite enough.

In fact, on the practice squad, Mitchell feels like a perfect candidate for the job. It also helps that the NFL expanded the practice squad to 16 players in the spring.

Look for Mitchell to be back.
