Vikings Fans Are Believers in Lewis Cine

Vikings fans, for the most part, seemed to express enthusiasm about the Lewis Cine selection. The physical safety will hopefully provide Minnesota’s defense with a much-needed boost.

It’s clear that Minnesota is hoping for a lot from their rookies. As a result, a poll on both the front page of Vikings Territory and Purple PTSD asks, “Which Vikings rookie will have the most immediate impact?” Like before, the statistics are far from definitive. Nevertheless, we have further reason to believe that fans really are enthusiastic about Lewis Cine. Take a look at the current results for which rookie will make the main impact:

  1. Lewis Cine – 68.62%
  2. Andrew Booth Jr. – 22.18%
  3. Ed Ingram – 5.44%
  4. Brian Asamoah – 3.76%

It’s no surprise to see that Minnesota’s top two picks, both of whom being defensive backs, are leading the charge. There is some competition in the defensive backs room, but Cine and Booth Jr. will have their shot at unseating a more established veteran.

From my vantage point, it does look like Lewis Cine has the best shot at an immediate impact. Heading into the draft, PFF suggested that he is an “assignment-sure safety who teams won’t have to protect at the next level.” They make note of his versatility, how he played 118 snaps in the slot, 155 in the box, and 543 deep (with 11 out at corner). Perhaps most concerning is that he had 8 missed tackles.

Booth Jr., meanwhile, has received praise as a player who can fit into any NFL defense: “Every defense in the NFL can find a spot for him.” Over the past three college seasons, Booth Jr. only logged 7 snaps in the slot. A surefire way to find oneself on the field rests in showing an ability to stifle slot receivers. Perhaps Booth Jr. has this potential, and yet there certainly is a fair amount of uncertainty in this regard. It’ll be fascinating to see how Ed Donatell uses him during training camp and the preseason.

Ingram and Asamoah will be depth options unless there’s an injury.
