The Vikings are Super Bowl Contenders

They say winning any game in the NFL is hard. Well, that’s seven already for the Minnesota Vikings this season, and six in a row. Despite the 7-1 start, the national focus has seemed to be on the one game they didn’t win against the NFC’s top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles, and that the Vikings haven’t been winning convincingly. However, it’s time to admit that the Vikings are Super Bowl contenders.

The headlines have seemed to be focused more on the lack of top-notch opponents those wins have come against rather than the fact that the Vikings continue to pile up wins. However, as the saying goes, you can only control what you can control, and the Vikings have done a heck of a job at that this season.

Sure, their wins haven’t come against the other top teams, but they also haven’t lost any games to the teams that they “should beat”.

Here’s a reminder that the Kansas City Chiefs have lost to the 3-5-1 Colts this season. The Dallas Cowboys lost their home opener to the 4-5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Francisco 49ers have lost to the 3-5 Denver Broncos and the 3-6 Chicago Bears.

With the exception of the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles and the 6-2 Buffalo Bills (who lost to the New York Jets this week), there’s no reason why the Vikings should not be talked about as Super Bowl contenders alongside everyone else.

Of course, they have won ugly, but a win is a win, and it’s time for the national media to recognize the purple team. As a Vikings fan, it is frustrating that the media doesn’t want to give this team the credit for hard-fought victories (plural) but chooses to discount them for one tough game.

I expect this to be another one of those weeks where they’ll focus more on the Washington Commanders now being a below .500 team and playing their backup QB, despite the fact that they came into their matchup against the Vikings on a three-game winning streak.

Not to worry, Vikings fans, next week this team will get their opportunity to finally plant their flag as Super Bowl contenders if they can pick up a road win against the Buffalo Bills. I fully expect the Vikings to battle and compete against the top seed in the AFC and wouldn’t be surprised if they beat Buffalo. The Vikings are Super Bowl contenders whether the national media wants to admit it or not, and the wins have proven that.
