Q: I saw where the Pioneer Press said Luiji Vilain could possibly be the steal of the draft. Do you agree?
A: No, not really.
Of course, there’s a chance he blossoms like Everson Griffen in 2014. Right now, he’s just a cool guy with a cool name. But we won’t endorse Vilain as a sure-fire unsung steal of the draft. Every draft pick is viewed with supreme upside at the moment, and Vilain is no different.
Q: Why do so many Vikings, new and old, have weird jersey numbers?
A: The NFL relaxed rules on numbering, so this is the new normal. Get used to it because it’s here to stay.
Dalvin Cook switched to #4, Cameron Dantzler to #3, and many rookies have weird numbers. This is how it goes. Change occurs in sports, and this just happens to be a new, openminded one that doesn’t hurt anybody.
Q: In your opinion, what is the next Vikings jersey number that should be retired?
A: You can’t go wrong with Randy Moss or Randall McDaniel.
Moss will create more buzz if the Vikings retire #84, but McDaniel’s #64 should be in the rafters, too. McDaniel played for the Vikings longer than Moss and notched more All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition.
Moss and McDaniel were fantastic, so let’s do both.
