The NFL combine is officially underway, and the prospects that have put their entire lives into creating an NFL career are now showcasing all of their talents over the course of the weekend. Some will thrive, but others will see their draft stock take a dip when the weekend wraps up. Here are the winners and losers among those at the quarterback position.

Winners

Malik Willis

Given how the 40 times ended up being across the board, Malik Willis likely would’ve put on a show. Unfortunately for us, he had nothing to gain from running it, so he opted out of it. That said, the on-field drills were a show in and of themselves. Willis proved some great accuracy on throws all the way up to 60 yards, and well, to get the ball 60 yards downfield you have to have some solid arm strength. Willis was one of the few QBs that seemed content to really let it rip on the go-routes. If there was ever a time to put Willis at QB1, it’s now.

Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy is not a guy that will be headlining the QB position by any means. However, his Thursday performance at the combine should have scouts on notice. The Iowa State QB ran a very solid 40, but more impressive was the fact that he really didn’t have a bad throw whenever he stepped on the field. That cannot really be said of many of these QBs.

Matt Corral

Obviously, Matt Corral didn’t participate in the combine because of injury. Given that was the case, this is probably about as well as things could have gone for him. Outside of Willis, no one really jumped out. Corrall still has a case to at least be QB2 in this class. Without a senior day or combine, that’s all he can really ask for at this point.

Losers

Carson Strong

The one thing Carson Strong really has going for him is a cannon of an arm. He didn’t really put that on display during his combine workout though. On his deep throws the receivers had to pull up short a number of times. Then his accuracy on other passes wasn’t spectacular like you would have hoped. This performance on top of an underwhelming Senior Bowl could plummet his stock.

Desmond Ridder

This will probably be a controversial choice given that Desmond Ridder may have run the fastest 40 for a QB in combine history. Unfortunately, that was the one thing that really went right for Ridder. He didn’t showcase any special deep balls, and his usual issues with accuracy were apparent throughout the night. Ridder didn’t necessarily do anything to hurt his draft stock, but there’s not anything new that would put him above the others in his tier, either.
