Vikings Turn Attention to a Couple FAs to Address OL, Corner Shortcomings

We all know that the Minnesota Vikings need far more talent at corner and along the offensive line. We all know that the team hasn’t done nearly enough this offseason to remedy these issues. A couple free agent visits may help:

Let’s start up front.

Jesse Davis is a 30-year-old offensive lineman who last played for Miami. Last season, he accumulated more than 1,000 snaps. He can play both inside and outside: “Davis started 72 games over five seasons in Miami and has experience at both guard and tackle. Sixteen of those starts came last season as Davis manned right tackle for the Dolphins, but a move inside seems likelier if he lands in Minnesota.”

Bringing Davis aboard is more about creating competition and depth than it is in fully fixing the offensive line. Indeed, Davis would likely be part of a larger plan for Minnesota. Ideally, the team won’t feel compelled to reach for a player in the draft. Being able to do so involves bringing in enough solid depth to avoid this fate.

Nate Hairston would similarly fill a position of need for the Minnesota Vikings. Chandon Sullivan may end up being the slot solution, but there needs to be far more talent brought in.

Originally drafted in the 5th round of the 2017 draft, Hairston has played for the Colts, Jets, and Broncos. He put together a 76.0 grade over 120 coverage snaps last season, per PFF. The hope, then, is that he could be solid depth and someone who could potentially blossom even more under Ed Donatell. He is still only 27.

The Vikings have some money to spend, so expect more rumors to emerge over the coming weeks.
