Each day, we select a quote about the Minnesota Vikings, uplifting the sentiment of the day or highlighting something notable.

The remark can come from a Vikings player, coach, writer, fan — or anybody, really. Selection of the quote is arbitrary. “When you hear Vikes trying to trade Danielle Hunter, it’s because his agents demands are unreasonable for an oft-injured player.”

And here’s the tweet:

This is the nuance necessary to understand the evolving Danielle Hunter situation for the Vikings. Indeed, Minnesota holds most of the leverage on Hunter’s contract, but annually, the Vikings ask Hunter to “play ball” at the contract table — and he usually obliges.

Well now, he’s fresh off a second injury-riddled campaign, seeking to finally land his ginormous payday. And the Vikings are evidently skittish about affording a single player colossal money, especially one who’s missed 79% of all games in the last two years.

Hunter’s agent is likely finished taking team-friendly deals, wishing to secure top-ten EDGE rusher money for his client. Hunter’s recent injury history muddies that request.

In the end, the Vikings will either trade Hunter or agree to a large contract. The deadline for the decision is Sunday when Hunter would net $18 million due from last year’s contract renegotiation.
