Each day, we select a quote about the Minnesota Vikings, uplifting the sentiment of the day or highlighting something notable.

The remark can come from a Vikings player, coach, writer, fan — or anybody, really. Selection of the quote is arbitrary. The excerpt may be insightful, humorous, groundbreaking, outlandish, or foolish. If you have a quote of the day (your own or from someone else), please send it to [email protected].

Whether it’s via free agency, the trade block or the NFL Draft remains to be seen. What we do know is that general manager Brandon Beane needs to find an upgrade. Simply put, Buffalo can’t rely on superstar quarterback Josh Allen to be its most consistent runner.Enter into the equation former NFL All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, who could potentially be had in a trade with the Carolina Panthers.” uploaddate=”2022-03-11″ thumbnailurl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/snapshot/971120_s_1647033088297.png” contentUrl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/streaming/971120/971120.m3u8″]

This quote is from March 13th, 2022, by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, the Vikings general manager, on the contractual extension of Kirk Cousins:

“Kirk was one of the first players I called when I joined the Vikings, and it was immediately clear how much he cares about this organization and about winning. High level quarterback play is a prerequisite to building a championship team, and we are confident Kirk will continue along that path.”

– Kwesi Adofo-Mensah | Minnesota Vikings

The “high-level quarterback play” for Cousins mentioned by Adofo-Mensah was the seventh-best in the NFL per a mixture of Pro Football Focus, QBR, and passer rating. Although, Deshaun Watson didn’t play in 2021 and Lamar Jackson had a down year, so Cousins usually teeters on the 10th or 11th-best spot statistically.

The Vikings new leadership regime believes it can win with Cousins at a $35 million per-season price tag. Plain and simple. When the ownership started the cycle of structural change in early January, it opined the team would be competitive in 2022 and that a rebuild was not afoot.

Inking Cousins for an extra season confirms the truth-telling acumen of Mark Wilf.

Cousins is the Vikings guy on an extension that eases cap pain. Minnesota will not start the Kevin O’Connell era with the guaranteed futility a rebuild would mandate.
