It’s well known that the Green Bay Packers are in a contract dispute with their starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Sound familiar, Vikings fans? Earlier this week, Rodgers posted a very cryptic message on his Instagram, before going on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and immediately denouncing that there would be any news regarding his future.

Now there is a latest twist to this ongoing saga that Aaron Rodgers wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL. This would mean a contract to the tune of $50 million per year. Then on Friday, a former teammate as well as former Viking has some harsh words for the MVP. On FS1’s First Things First. Greg Jennings went on and ripped Rodgers for his selfishness.

It’s very easy to see Jennings’ point of view here. In the segment, he points out that he was trying to get a sizeable contract with Green Bay when Rodgers told him “don’t be that guy”. Now, it appears Rodgers is precisely being “that guy”.

Rodgers did say tell McAfee on his appearance that a decision would be made soon, but this latest wrinkle would make it very difficult for Green Bay to bring him back. The Packers already have decisions to make regarding multiple other stars this offseason, including receiver Davante Adams. If Rodgers does in fact want this type of money, it makes it even more difficult to bring these players back. Additionally, it becomes nearly impossible to bring in help through free agency.

Of course, all eyes across the NFL will be on this situation until it is resolved. Rodgers is the MVP for a reason, giving him and his status a considerable amount of gravity. Particularly, the NFC North is affected by his future. As long as he remains in Green Bay, the Packers remain the favorites to win the division. If he departs though, that could mean a new leader emerges.
