Q: Did the Vikings win over the Patriots reinvigorate you after the huge loss to Dallas?
A: Yes, a loss would’ve indicated the Vikings probably weren’t the real deal and that they really had been lucky, at times, during the seven-game win streak.
But responding with a primetime holiday win over Bill Belichick is no joke and proves the 2022 Vikings indeed have some oomph.
The franchise still needs to play a complete game, so maybe it’s saving that until the postseason or something.
Q: Looking ahead to next weekend, what do the Jets do well?
A: The Jets are good defensively — and that’s about it.
Their offense has been bad — and flat-out awful in spots — but the defense ranks sixth in the NFL per DVOA through Week 11.
New York benched Zach Wilson this week, pivoting to Mike White, who had a couple of good games in 2021. The Jets are a lot like the Patriots — great on defense but ho-hum offensively — without Belichick.
The Vikings should win, but anything is possible if one remembers how poorly things went in Week 11.
Q: In what scenario would Kirk Cousins not be the quarterback for the Vikings in 2023?
A: A trade.
What would necessitate a trade of Cousins? Probably a postseason game where he looked totally inept. Let’s face it, though. The Vikings are 9-2 through 11 weeks, so any chatter about “how could Cousins leave” next year is dumb.
He’s the Vikings QB1 and is under contract through the end of 2023. He’ll be the team’s QB in 2023. If he is not, it will have meant the Vikings collapsed somehow between now and March, Cousins turned awful, and Minnesota’s front office was ready to move on.
Unlikely.
