The Minnesota Vikings made their second wave of cuts on Tuesday, trimming their roster down the required 80 players. Among the cuts made this week were tight end Shane Beyer and cornerback Harrison Hand while linebacker Ryan Connelly and wide receiver Blake Proehl head to the PUP list, meaning they are able to stick around on the roster.

After being cut yesterday, Harrison Hand has been claimed off waivers by another NFL team. The New York Giants snagged the third-year cornerback up on Wednesday afternoon, adding him to a room that now consists of eight players:

  • Adoree’ Jackson
  • Aaron Robinson
  • Darnay Holmes
  • Rodarius Williams
  • Cor’dale Flott
  • Zyon Gilbert
  • Harrison Hand
  • Darren Evans

This offseason dealt a difficult blow to the Giants secondary as they were forced to release star James Bradberry as a cap casualty after they were unable to find a trade partner. He then signed with New York’s division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. Hand looks to compete for a depth position on the roster as the Giants try to cope with that loss.

Hand was selected by the Vikings in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. Before being waived on Tuesday, the Temple product played two seasons in Minnesota. During his rookie year of 2020, the cornerback started the season finale against the Detroit Lions. Minnesota won that game 37-35 while Hand recorded a pair of tackles. Just one week earlier, the rookie intercepted a pass against the New Orleans Saints on Christmas Day.

Hand spent the vast majority of his time on special teams in 2021, and he wrapped up his Vikings career recording a total of 22 tackles, three pass defenses, and that sole Christmas Day interception. It looks like he has not played his last game in U.S. Bank Stadium though, assuming he makes the Giants final roster. The Giants travel to Minneapolis to take on the Vikings in a Christmas Eve showdown that is part of the Week 16 slate. Perhaps some holiday magic will once again benefit Hand in his revenge game against his former team.
