After a single preseason appearance last Thursday with the Jacksonville Jaguars, QB Kyle Sloter was released from the team and was replaced by QB E.J. Perry. In the game, he played the entire second half while completing 13/25 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Sloter joined the Jaguars on the heels of earning first-team All-USFL honors for his performance with the New Orleans Breakers. He led the Breakers to the playoffs by passing for 1799 yards and nine touchdowns during the regular season.

Following the release, there were a few rumbles among Vikings fandom about the QB who earned the nickname “Mr. Preseason” because of his exhibition performances for Minnesota. In two years of preseason with the Vikings, Kyle Sloter put up 809 yards, eight touchdowns, and one single interception over the course of eight games.

To the frustration of many fans, Sloter was unable to make the final roster for the Vikings in either of the 2018 or 2019 seasons, though. However, the rumbles of a potential reunion have turned to a low roar after Sloter himself confirmed a desire to come back to Minnesota. On Twitter, Rick Sosa of The Purple Code posted a photo of Sloter from his time with the Vikings expressing his desire for the QB to come back. Sloter replied with this:

Currently, the Vikings have both Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond on the roster as backups to Kirk Cousins. However, as the first depth chart shows, neither of them have truly emerged to win the backup job. Given what we’ve seen from Mannion in his career, this does not bode well for Mond’s future. The Vikings drafted Mond in the third round of last year’s draft as the presumed backup to Cousins and eventual successor. If he truly can’t beat out Mannion for a backup job, that plan is in jeopardy.

With the on-and-off performances continuing into training camp, the possibility of the Minnesota Vikings looking for a backup QB outside of the organization is becoming a possibility. Sloter could be a guy to keep an eye, especially with his confirmed desire to wear purple once again.
