Josh Frey’s NFL Standings Predictions: AFC West

The AFC West looks like the strongest division in the entire league this year, and it could end up being one of the most competitive divisions we’ve ever seen. Between the star QBs and strong defenses, each week looks to be exciting as these teams take the field. Here are my predictions for the AFC West in 2022.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (12-5)

The Chiefs got off to a strangely slow start in 2021, and they’ll right those wrongs in 2022. Coming off back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, the team seemed to be a little too comfortable last season, but I expect them to come out firing on all cylinders this year.

They don’t have Tyreek Hill anymore, but rookie Skyy Moore provides an interesting dynamic to the offense, and George Karlaftis is a beast at EDGE. The AFC West is going to be a juggernaut to get through this season, but KC ends up on top.

2. Los Angeles Chargers (12-5)

The Chargers relied on Justin Herbert to do just about everything last year, even down to the final game of the year where he had to overcome multiple 4th-down-and-forever scenarios. At the end of the day, his defense let him down by allowing the Raiders to kick a game-winning field goal at the end of overtime.

They added multiple pieces to fix that side of the ball, and Herbert maintains all of his weapons. This team will be terrific in 2022, and Justin Herbert has to be a favorite to win MVP.

3. Denver Broncos (10-7)

Denver has been a solid team for a couple years now except at the quarterback position. They are hoping to change that with the addition of Russell Wilson. While Wilson may have taken a step back in performance over the past couple years, he is certainly a better starting option than most others in the NFL. The Broncos will be back in the playoffs in 2022 as a wild card team.

4. Las Vegas Raiders (7-10)

The Raiders are a talented squad, but someone has to come in last in this division. Vegas has a more difficult schedule than either Los Angeles or Denver, and they have the unfortunate scheduling curse where they have nine road games. This team would beat just about any other squad with a similar record, but there’s only so many wins to go around in the AFC West.
