Three-and-out …

1: Now that Anthony Harris is gone, the Vikings need another safety. It’s a simple fix. Move Patrick Peterson back there.

Peterson has been an outstanding cornerback since coming into the league and he easily can transition to safety and be outstanding there as well.

It’s not like it is an unprecedented move. Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott and Charles Woodson began their NFL careers as kick-ass cornerbacks before switching to safety.

And making Peterson a safety allows the Vikings to keep second-year cornerbacks Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler on the field for every play, with Peterson behind them with Harrison Smith making sure the youngsters are in the right place.

So I am right there with former Packers safety Leroy Butler, who tweeted, “He could go the Charles Woodson route. You could always move him to safety if they want to keep the babies out on the corner. … I think he’d be a fantastic safety.”

Think about it, and you’ll feel the same way.

2: Riley Reiff was far from the best left tackle in football, but he was serviceable and didn’t get Kirk Cousins creamed too often. Now he’s gone, too.

What to do? What to do?

Somebody will line up at left tackle. Maybe it’ll be Ezra Cleveland. Maybe Brian O’Neill moves over from right tackle.

Whatever happens, there is no way to know if the offensive line will improve its stench from the past few seasons so new OC Klint Kubiak better be prepared.

When an O-line is in stinkeroo mode,  the way to offset that, or try to, is play-action, short passes to the running back and tight ends and quick slants to the wide receivers.

The passing game may have shorter routes but so what if the chains move and points are scoredand Cousins isn’t pulverized?

3: Should Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman be fired if the Vikings don’t reach the Super Bowl or at least the NFC Championship Game?

Yep.
