Reports suggest that Danielle Hunter and Dede Westbrook have been activated from the Covid List.

Earlier in the year, Hunter tore his pec, an injury that suggested he’d be done for the entirety of the 2021 season. Hunter, though, is far from average. Getting Danielle Hunter back into the mix would be truly massive for the defense. He’s a legit DE1, someone who offenses continually need to account for on a play-by-play basis. Unfortunately, it looks like the dream of him returning this season is precisely that: a dream.

One thing I will add, though, is that the ESPN transaction page for the Vikings suggests Hunter has been activated from the IR. I’m assuming it’s merely a mistake. All that I’m seeing suggests he’ll indeed be absent for the rest of the year.

Having Dede Westbrook back in the mix will be helpful. Obviously, his main role is as Minnesota’s punt returner. K.J. Osborn had the one notable gaffe against the Bears, allowing a punt to sail over his head.

It’s also notable, though, that the offense had to role with Ihmir Smith-Marsette for the WR3 job since Westbrook was unable to go. Normally, he’d be the team’s WR3 when Adam Thielen is forced to miss time.

Hopefully, the Vikings get more good news on the Covid and injury front as they prepare for a difficult game against the Rams.
