Putting a cherry on-top of what has been a superstar rookie season, Justin Jefferson surpassed Randy Moss’ team record for most receiving yards by a rookie in the third quarter of today’s Week 17 contest against the Detroit Lions.

As of the writing of this article, Jefferson has 1,365 yards, which moves him into the second spot for most yards by a rookie receiver in the modern era. NFL.com explained BEFORE today’s match-up:

“Jefferson is currently sits at 1,267 yards in his first season, which is fourth all-time behind Odell Beckham (New York Giants, 2014, 1,305 yards), Randy Moss (Minnesota Vikings, 1998, 1,313) and record-holder Anquan Boldin(Arizona Cardinals, 2003, 1,377), per NFL Research.”

That means Jefferson is a catch or so away from the best rookie season since the AFL’s inaugural season in 1960. Jefferson is also two yards from his seventh-100 yard game (despite not being part of the game plan until Week 3).

The record for professional rookie receiving yards comes from the AFL’s inaugural 1960 season via the then Houston Oilers’ Bill Groman. Groman had 1,473 yards on 72 catches. Jefferson needs a huge fourth quarter to make that happen, but with the way this game and his season is going?

Anything is possible.
